There’s someone else in your therapy room.

You can’t see them. Your client can’t see them. But both of you can feel them, sitting right there between you, making sure nothing moves.

I call them The Ghost Client.

  • The mother whose grief your client is still carrying.
  • The grandfather who came back from war and never spoke.
  • The promise someone made three generations ago that your client is still honoring…with her body. Her choices. Her inability to feel free.

Meet Jacquie*. She was 32 and couldn’t commit.

Not “couldn’t” like she hadn’t met the right person. “Couldn’t” like her body physically wouldn’t let her. Her attachment history was fine. No major trauma. Therapy helped… but only so far.

Until someone finally looked at her mother.

Her mother was 19 when the man she loved died suddenly, right before they were supposed to marry. In that grief, she made a silent promise: “I will never truly let my heart fall in love again.”

The daughter had been carrying that promise her whole life.

Being loyal to a grief that was never hers. You can do EMDR on that for a decade. It won’t fully clear.

Because the Ghost Client in that room wasn’t the daughter. It was the mother.

This is the layer most trauma trainings don't touch.

You've had this client. Maybe dozens of them. The one who's done "the work". Mapped the parts. Processed the memories. Understands their patterns intellectually.

And still, something won't budge.

  • They keep choosing unavailable partners.
  • They keep shrinking in rooms where they belong.
  • They keep abandoning themselves right at the edge of what they actually want.

That's not resistance. That's not self-sabotage.

That's loyalty.

Unconscious loyalty to a pattern they never chose. To a wound they didn't create. To someone else's definition of what love, safety, or success is allowed to look like.

And until you can see that loyalty for what it is, and work with it at the level it was created....the pattern will keep running their lives.

Why This Doesn't Shift Through Insight

You can name the pattern. You can trace it back three generations. Your client can understand exactly where it came from. And still, nothing moves.

Because legacy burdens don't live in the mind.
They live in the body. In the field. In the space between what was spoken and what was never allowed to be said.

To release them, three things have to happen:

1. The pattern has to be seen, not just understood.
Not intellectually. Spatially. Your client needs to see where they stand in the system, who they're loyal to, and what role they've been assigned.

2. What was excluded has to be included.
Someone was cut off. Something was never grieved. A truth was never spoken. Until that's acknowledged, the system stays frozen.

3. The burden has to be returned, in the body, not just the mind.
There are words that release the grip. But they only land when the nervous system is ready to let go.

This is the work.

How to Release Legacy Burdens

In this class, we work at the level where the pattern was created; in the body, in the field, in the lineage itself. You won't just learn this, you'll experience it.

The Three Circles Exercise
Map your family of origin, your current relationships, and the invisible contracts running underneath both. The roles assigned before you/your client was born. Once you see it on paper, the pattern has a shape.

The Field Meditation
All the generations that came before you are standing behind you. You'll feel what shifts when you turn to face them... and when you finally speak what's been unspoken. This is where we restore what got disrupted, bringing the system back into balance.

The Healing Sentences
There are words that release the burden. But they only land when the body is ready. I'll show you exactly how to get there, and how to guide your clients there too.

You'll walk away with a felt shift in your own body. And you'll know how to replicate it in session.

This isn't a lecture. It's a working room.

This is one of the most profound trainings I offer. Not because of what you'll learn. Because of what you'll feel.

Murray Bowen called it differentiation, the ability to stay connected to your family system without being ruled by it. To feel your own feelings, think your own thoughts, and make choices that are actually yours.

Virginia Satir called it congruence, when your inner experience and outer expression finally match. When you stop performing safety and start being safe. When your clients can feel you're grounded in yourself, not just holding space from a script.

This training isn't just about adding more concepts to your toolkit. It's about embodying something that shifts how you sit in the room, with your clients, with your family, with yourself.

You'll leave with frameworks, yes. But more than that, you'll leave with a felt sense of what it means to carry only what's yours.

And your clients will feel the difference.

"What stood out to me is that this wasn't just conceptual, we went into each of the exercises.

As therapists, we're trained in techniques, but we're rarely given the space to actually experience the work ourselves.

That leaves me feeling more confident in how I approach these methods with clients.

Here's what You'll Take Into Your Next Session

The Core Language Approach (Mark Wolynn): How to take the exact sentence your client keeps repeating and trace it back to its origin in the family system.

The Three Systemic Forces (Bert Hellinger): Belonging, social order, and equilibrium. When any of these are off-balance, it creates the conditions for a Ghost Client to show up. Once you can see these forces, you'll understand exactly why your best intervention keeps hitting a wall.

Invisible Loyalties (Ivan Boszormenyi-Nagy): This one reframes everything. Your client's "resistance" isn't resistance. It's devotion. This framework shows you how to honor that loyalty without letting it run the treatment.

The Burden Releasing Process: The exact setup I use before a client speaks the words that send the ghost home.

A Legacy Assessment for intake and a worksheet you can take into your very next session.

"[These concepts] are very meta in the way that it ties up our own outer work with our inner work."

"I loved the three orders, and the healing sentences; they really helped me focus on the order that had to be restored and to find the words to say to my lineage."

The Inner and Outer Shift You'll Walk Away With

You'll walk into your next session and know: Is this a wound, or a pattern from a legacy burden?

  • You'll stop spinning when a client loops.
  • You'll have the words that actually release the grip.
  • Your stuck clients will finally move.

Not because you worked harder. Because you finally treated the core thread of the pain.
